Is Vince Carter Committed To Winning?

With training camp officially underway, the New Jersey Nets bring back a similar roster to the one we’ve seen the past few seasons. Hoping this year will be different, Nets superstar Vince Carter looks to avenge last season’s quick exit in the playoffs. While I was working on my Nets outlook for this upcoming season, I thought back to a moment that had me wondering if the Nets superstar is up for the task.

Since Vince Carter’s separation from his wife over a year ago, he’s been spotted all over NYC club hopping. Living the dream, Vince rocks a prime table at whatever club he’s at, really enjoying the bachelor life.

Is there anything wrong with this? Absolutely Not

Here’s my problem:

Following last seasons Game 6 playoff loss to Cleveland, in which Vince shot 4-11, with 5 turnovers; Vince didn't take the defeat too hard. At about 2:30 that evening, as I was leaving the 40/40 club (owned by Net partial owner, Jay-Z) I happened to notice a table passing around bottles of champagne, as if they just won the lottery. As I walked closer to the table, I noticed Vince Carter smiling ear to ear, entertaining his posse, dancing on the table, with his standard bottle in hand.

I was surprised to say the least… How do you think Nets majority owner Bruce Ratner would feel if he saw Vince celebrating? You just got eliminated from the playoffs, act like you care just a little bit.

This is the guy the Nets are expecting to lead them in a much tougher Atlantic Division. Perhaps VC needs to get his priorities in order first.

I've never been a big VC fan. He's a special talent without the work ethic to become a great. Along with his cousin Tracy McGrady, they will never be in the same league as the true current Superstars Kobe and LeBron and it isnt for a lack of skills.

The Nets are crazy to pay Vince $16 mill per. They should've held out for a superstar in next seasons free agent.

Enjoy the blog.
